"I’ve been with Dec for 3 years now. I was one of those people who worried what others thought when I started going as I had never gone to the gym before and my physical strength was very poor. Dec put me at ease straight away and the sessions were always tailored to what I was capable of doing (which in the beginning was very little!) while still pushing you that bit all the time.

Gradually, through persistence, I improved immensely. When I started I was working with an empty barbell. Before the closure for Covid-19 I was able to do a 50kg weighted pull up, 145kg bench press and a 160kg squat. Not bad for someone who is 83kg.

I see a massive physical change in myself as I gained 6kg since I started. I’ve never had a day in those years where Dec was in bad form. He’s always cheery and enjoys a bit of banter but you still get your work done. All in all I can’t recommend Dec highly enough. If you are willing to put in the work, Dec will get you the results you are looking for."

"I've been training with Dec three or four days a week since 2014. I had already been in the gym for a few years and was fairly strong but wanted to focus more on losing weight, improving my posture and building up strength.

Dec discussed diet with me and we worked out a realistic plan which involved careful food management while keeping activity levels high, both within and outside the gym. The combination of squat, deadlift, bench and conditioning was exhausting at first but with Dec's encouragement and my own persistence, I made huge progress and achieved my goals within a few months.

After years of sitting at a computer my posture was terrible, but Dec focused on that in particular and the results were impressive, as were the physical changes in my body. As I approach 50, I'm very proud that I can bench my weight, deadlift twice my weight, do a decent squat and generally wear myself out with sleds and kettle-bells.

Dec strikes the right balance between toughness and encouragement and I have always felt that he believed in my ability to improve, which motivates me to work harder. There isn't a day that I don't look forward to training with him and I couldn't recommend him highly enough."

"I have been training with Declan since September of 2019 in his group classes. In this time I have reached many personal goals that we have set and my overall level of fitness and wellbeing has improved hugely. I have lost in excess of 8 pounds and my max bench, deadlift and squat have all improved consistently over the period.

Declan's approach of setting realistic targets and tailoring his training approach to focus on my own areas of weakness and difficulty has been a huge benefit to me. I have always had a poor posture/weak core from office type work and sitting for long periods of time. Flexibility in my hips has never been great and the squat exercise has always been a challenge for me. This often meant that I couldn't stay at the same pace as the others in my class for a certain leg circuit/exercise.This was recognised and prioritised as an area for improvement to bring me up to speed with the rest of the class. The benefits of the group classes are that they are both motivational and sometimes competitive but equally the individual's ability is recognised and matched with that of another member of the class too.

The atmosphere is always friendly and relaxed in the classes but they are also testing and I generally feel like I don't have much left to give at the end of each class.
Declan's group classes offer a combination of individual focus while also allowing you to experience the competitive side of working in a group. He is a tough trainer but is always pleasant and friendly.
I would recommend him without hesitation to anyone trying to improve their strength and sports performance."
